在日常交流中，我们经常会表达“努力学习”、“努力工作”等话语，那这类表达在英语中是study hardly，work hardly吗？
首先辨析一下hard 和 hardly 的区别：
hard [ha:d]adj. 坚硬的，困难的，辛苦的，猛烈的。
adv. 努力地，困难地，辛苦地。
hardly ['ha:dli]adv. 几乎不，简直不。
要注意的是 hardly并不是hard的副词形式。hardly有否定意义，hard既是形容词，又是副词。
接下来我们通过例句来解释：
1. Mr. Wang is living a hard life on his painting.
王先生靠着自己的画作维系着贫苦的生活。
2. I don't think it is a hard work for you. You are professional.
我觉得这项工作对你来说并不难，你是专家啊！
3. The diamond is so hard that it can be cut by only itself.
钻石的硬度非常高以至于只有钻石才能切割钻石。
4. Tim has been working hard since he came in.
Tim自从加入公司以来一直都努力工作。
5. People in this village agree the proposal on the water supply hardly.
镇上几乎没人同意这项关于饮水供应的提议。
“努力”除了上述表达还可以怎么说？
strive 努力、奋斗
1.The sales manager encourages his team to strive for the highest sale by the end of the month.
这位销售经理鼓励他的团队在月底之前努力达成最高的销售业绩。
2.There is nothing difficult if we would strive to achieve it.
如果我们能够为之努力，那么这个世界上就不会有什么难事了。
endeavor努力、尽力1.Each year, millions of students are endeavoring seriously for the Entrance Examination to University (Gao kao).
每年都会有成千上万的学生为高考不懈努力。
2.When he sets a final target, he will take an endeavor to make it.
当他设定一个最终目标的时候，他就会付出努力以达成这个目标。
make effort做出努力1.The one who makes a great effort can make a great achievement.
那些能做出努力的人才会做出伟大成就。
2.You will succeed if you can make effort.
只要你能做出努力，就能成功。
