四大“醒”，包括 wake，waken，awake 和 awaken，它们意思相近，有的时候甚至感觉它们是一样的，那怎么区分它们呢？
一、wake
1. Wake (up) 最常用，可表示睡醒或弄醒，例如：
I always wake early in the summer.
我夏天总是醒得早。
He woke up to find himself alone in the house.
他醒来时发现屋里只有他一个人。
What time do you usually wake up in the morning?
通常你早晨几点钟醒？
She likes to wake up with a cup of coffee.
她喜欢喝杯咖啡使更清醒。
解析：wake up 所表示的清醒度比 wake 高。
I was woken (up) by the telephone.
电话铃声把我吵醒了。
2. “Wake up!” 用作命令，例如：
Wake up! It’s time to get going.
醒醒！该走了。
Wake up! It's eight o'clock.
醒醒！已经八点钟了。
3. Wake 可以作名词，常用于搭配 in the wake of sb/sth，意为”随…之后而来，跟随在…后“，例如：
Many disciplinary procedures are implemented in the wake of elections.
许多有关纪律的程序是在选举之后实施的。
A group of reporters followed in her wake.
一群记者跟随在她的身后。
The storm left a trail of destruction in its wake.

二、awake
1. Awake 通常只以过去式 awoke 出现在写作中，可以表示睡醒或弄醒，例如：
I awoke at seven o'clock.
我七点钟醒来。
She awoke me at seven.
她七点钟叫醒了我。
2. awake 可以作形容词，例如：
I drink a lot of coffee to keep me awake.
我喝了很多咖啡以保持清醒。
She used to lie awake at night worrying about how to pay the bills.
她过去常常晚上睡不着觉，担心如何付账单。
三、waken 和 awaken
Waken 和 awaken 更正式，awaken 尤用于文学作品，例如：
I shook him but he didn't waken.
我摇了摇他，但他没有醒。
I was wakened by a knock at the door.
敲门声把我吵醒了。
The Prince awakened Sleeping Beauty with a kiss.
王子的吻唤醒了睡美人。
They were awakened by the sound of gunfire.

四、短语动词
1. wake (sb) up 意为”醒来，唤醒，使活跃起来“
2. wake up to sth / awake/awaken to sth 意为”意识到，认识到“
He hasn't yet woken up to the seriousness of the situation.
他还没有认识到形势的严重性。
It took her some time to awake to the dangers of her situation.
过了一些时间她才意识到处境危险。
I gradually awakened to the realization that our marriage was over.
我逐渐意识到我们的婚姻结束了。
五、四者的区别
它们既可以作及物动词，也可以作不及物动词。
1. 只有 wake 用于短语动词 wake up，其他的不用。
2. Waken，awake 和 awaken 比 wake 更正式。
3. 虽然 wake 和 awake 作为动词时意思是一样的，但是 awake 更多地用作形容词，是四个当中唯一一个可以作形容词的。
4. 四个单词中，只有 wake 可以作名词，其他的不行。
