前两天，有同学问我一个问题，问题本身就把我惊艳到了：

先介绍一下这位语言大师，英语句子一会儿再分析。
他叫 James Joyce，中文译名叫詹姆斯·乔伊斯，喜欢外国文学的朋友应该不陌生。
被称为英文世界最难懂的“意识流作品”《尤利西斯》（Ulysses）就是他的作品。
下面我们就仔细看看他这句旷世名言：
Love loves to love love
这里面出现了4个 love，我们依次为它们标上序号：① Love ② loves to ③ love ④ love
①是名词，love 表示“爱”或“爱情”。
②是动词，love to 这个短语想必大家很熟悉，就是“爱/喜欢（做某事）”，比如 My mother loves to cook.（我妈妈喜欢下厨）。
③是动词，love 表示“爱上”，比如 I love you.
④是名词，同 ①，不多解释了。
看到这里如果你还是有点晕，那么咱们再类比一下，把 ① 和 ④ 换成 Jack 和 Rose：
Jack loves to love Rose.
译：杰克喜欢爱上露丝的感觉。
这样是不是就很清楚了？
回到这个句子“Love loves to love love”，我们试着去翻译一下：
爱就是爱上爱“爱”的感觉。
换句话说，爱其实就是去爱“爱”本身。
还不明白？
嗯，我突然想到两首歌词，应该能帮助你理解。
第一首歌是陈奕迅的《一丝不挂》的一句歌词。
词作者林夕写出了一句跟乔伊斯老爷子琴瑟共鸣的一句歌词：
难道爱本身可爱在于束缚。
结合上下文，这句话的内涵是，“我像个木偶一样日夜被你所牵动，难以割舍，难道爱的本质就是这种无形的羁绊与束缚吗？”
另一首歌就是谢霆锋的：
因为爱，所以爱。
非常自带音效吧？
其实乔伊斯的这句话就是讨论了爱的本质、爱的真谛。
什么是真正的爱？爱就是一种爱上别人的感觉，享受于其中的牵肠挂肚和百转千回。
我们再举个例子，比如小明爱上了小红，乔伊斯老爷子把小明拉到一边，语重心长地对他说：
小明啊，其实你爱的不是小红，你爱的是你爱上小红的感觉，你爱的不是人，爱的是那份感觉！
可能这个例子不太恰当，但或许就是 Love loves to love love 的内涵。
下面来探讨一下这句英语到底怎么翻译才会好一点？
其实中文里的“爱”也有两个词性，动词和名词，是不是可以翻译为：
爱爱爱爱。
而且形式比英文更整齐划一。
当然，要翻得通俗易懂一些的话，可以这样：
1.因为爱所以爱。
2.爱本身可爱。
3.爱就是爱上“爱”本身。
