打气
“打气”可不是beat air，这个词的意思实际是“鼓舞士气，鼓励”，可以用give a pep talk表示，其中pep的意思是“活力；热情”。
The leader gave us a pep talk before the departure.
出发之前领导为我们打气。
对话
A:The team leader gave us a pep talk before the game,and then we won.
队长在比赛前给我们打气，而后我们赢得了比赛。
B:Good job!
干得好！
“打气”其实就是“鼓励”的意思
所以还可以用encourage表示

鬼地方

管得严
这里的“严”是“严格，严厉”的意思，所以“管得严”可以用be hard on表示。
Dad is very hard on Tom.
爸爸对汤姆管得很严。

A:Mary is too young.Don't be too hard on her.
玛丽还太小，别对她管得太严了。
B:She has grown up.
她已经长大了。
“严厉”还可以用单词strict来表示

Mr.Green is strict with his son.
